‘Ciurunji’ the first: a red coral and oxidized sterling silver chunky bracelet ensemble
this is a bracelet ensemble the brings together incredible and mystical properties of water and the moon.
Its beauty is borrowed from an Embu folklore inspired by ‘ciurunji‘ the first. The mother of the aembu people of Eastern Kenya.
Composition:
- 5 red coral bracelets
- 1 antique multi-strand silver bracelet
why we used Red Coral
This beautiful gem isn’t truly a gemstone at all, but rather an organic material found in the ocean. Its deep connection to life, vitality, wellness, and prosperity has kept it popular for use in jewelry and meditation for centuries.
we chose red coral for this jewelry project to symbolize the appearance of ‘ciurunji’ by the banks of the famous Mbui Njeru waterfall in Embu.
according to the Embu Mythology, ‘Mwene Njeru‘ (God) created Mwenendega and gave him a beautiful wife by the famous Mbui Njeru waterfall—hence her name “Ciurunji.”
why we incorporated Silver
Silver is a refined and distinguished color, symbolizing wealth and success. Its properties are similar to that of gray, but it’s more lively, fun and playful. Silver also represents grace, sophistication, elegance and glamor.
Silver is known to carry the energies of the moon, especially during new moons and full moons. As Silver is reflective, the moon reflects light coming from the sun, and it does the same for whoever wears it.
Silver is believed to be a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us. It’s a color of strength, of clarity, and focus. The true color of purity, so that we may be pure to ourselves and see our strengths and what we need to improve upon.
